Hello All!

I am thinking of getting a wet lens for my SP-350 with PT-030 housing.

So far, I have been pretty happy with the camera but I would like to take more close up macro pictures. I have noticed that when you get real close, the camera does not always lock on the target well.

I am thinking of getting the Inon AD Mount Base with either the UCL-165AD Close-up Lens (165mm focal length) or the UFL-165AD Underwater Fisheye Conversion Lens.

Does anyone have any experience or comments about the above set up? Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Lee

Hi Lee
You say you would like to take more close-up macro shots, then the UCL-165AD close-up lens is what you need. Your subjects will be sharper and appear larger than with your standard lens.
The UFL-165AD is a wide angle lens, although you will be able to get close with this lens, your subjects will look smaller than they actually are, it is designed for taking in broad scenic shots of larger subjects.
Both lenses are high quality (IMHO the only lenses worth buying for P&S digitals u/w)

Just wanted to mention that the UCL-165 lens is stackable. If one lens doesn't get you enough maginification for your liking, you can add another UCL-165 on top of the first one. I have seen some great macro pictures by others on this board that have stacked UCL-165's.

I use stacked UCL-165AD's on my PT30. Works a charm. Getting the AD lens holder for the strobe arm is also a good idea, as is a strobe with a focus light.

The fisheye is a nice lens - I've been using the 105 wide angle lens with good results, but as that lens is now on the bottom of the Andaman Sea i'm thinking of getting the larger fish eye as a replacement: anyone got any example photos with it?

Cheers,
Rohan.

Hi Lee
No I don't have this set-up (SP350 & PT-030) but a couple of my students have had them and I have been impressed with the results and ease of use. One student was using the Inon Macro lens and got some very nice pics. I use the UCL165-67 on C5050 double stacked and find them to be great add-on lenses for really small stuff (these are the same lens but with thread rather than bayonet mount).

I am interested in the UCL-165 for a PT-017 housing, however the threads are 46mm vs 67mm. Does the UCL-165 come with a step up adapter like the Olympus/UN PCU-01 does? I like that the UCL-165 can be stacked and it gets great reviews, plus it seems to be less expensive than the Olympus lens.

You can get a 46-67 step ring for about $5 at the local camera store or on E-Bay. I use a 46-58 for my 16mm Sea & Sea Nikonos wide angle lens. You can also get the Inon AD mount system for your housing and have a quick disconnect lens using the AD type. One problem with the threaded lenses is that if you get them even a little too tight, the port wants to unscrew with the lens. This is not a good thing.
