Looks like the 2 that come up right away are Haigh and Pearl Lake ... neither of these is very close with Haigh an hour an 12 minutes away and Pearl an hour an 38 min. away... yeah Lake Michigan is right there but the experience needed/cash required are greater...

Then there was a vague reference to a Brandon Rd. Quarry... that one is "only" 47 minutes away... no on site air... going to start searching North West Indiana now...

Nope. Those are pretty much your only options. There is that big lake just to the east of you.

that involves a charter and now the dive costs me $100 ... I can dive every weekend for 2 months for that kinda money...

then again by what Haigh and Pearl charge for daily dive entry ($20!) they Must be the only game(s) in town...

Haigh really is your best option. It is a well run place with plenty of fish and things to see in the water. They fill air and nitrox (if there is a sticker on your tank) and can rent you most of the equipment you don't have. A lot of us get our diving done there.

I am not sure where you are used to diving, but I think you will find that most of the quarries in the Mid-West charge about the same. You might find shore diving on some lake somewhere if you look for it that might be free or maybe charge a park entry fee, but know the regulations first before you dive it.

Northwest Ohio diving, Whitestar an Portage primarily as their both a lil' over 30 min. away, Gilboa is an hour away...

All three are $10 admission tho' so yeah I think $20 is a lil' steep, but expected.
