I will probably spend one week there with my son. I thought that it was a good place to learn to dive for him. 3 dives a day easy dives, eaasy living ( he is 17 ) .

so the first 3 days as he is working on his OW, i will dive without him. The fact is that im more into big fishes. I know that Roatan is not known for that, but what can i expect and what dive spots do i have to choose to see some pelagics or schools of fishes or rays or baracuddas, turtles..etcetc.. well .

Just one thing : i just HATE shark feeding. It's in my opinion, like going to a zoo or a circus. But if there is sharks, they must be seen somwhere not to close of bucket of fishheads

Some video, all shot within ~20 minute boat ride of the West End (we were leaving from West Bay Beach) a few months ago. Around 2:00 you can see some of the groupers that hang out near the El Aguila wreck.

Large HD file (best to let load a few minutes):

From what I understand, the north side of the island has bigger fish generally than the south side.

Great video. I'm really excited to get back there in a couple weeks. How many turtles did you see while you were down there. I stayed at FI last time I was there and only saw 1 all week. It was the highlight of the dive, turtles have to be my favorite animal. It looks like they are flying through the water.

Thanks! Lucky you heading back so soon (wish we could go again!). :)

First couple days of diving (3 dives / day), we were seeing at least one turtle per dive. The next three days, we didn't see any. Agree, they're totally amazing.

Some turtle shots we snapped:

awesome turtle pics :) I've seen a lot of turtles while diving but they've always been in the distance. I must have some kind of turtle repellant haha

We saw big grouper at Texas also. My friends saw turtles, grouper and a few barracuda off the ocean side of Spooky Channel - all on one dive. A DM said that happens fairly often. Besides the Wahuika shark dive, we didn't see a shark all week.

I think day in and day out you'll find some of the best diving on Roatan's west end. I was there last month and will soon be back for another 2 1/2 months. In this video you can see some black groupers that are clearly over 200 lbs. Was diving with Splash Inn Resort and found them to be nice operation with hotel and restaurant. Take a look here:YouTube - DIVING WITH SPLASH INN RESORT
