Quick and dirty, cause I'm packing to leave for a couple days of cave diving :)

Met up with my old buddy Judd C, who took OW class with me in '03, but didn't get more than a handfull of dives since then. He was interested in getting back in the water and I let him use my jacket BC. This left me with my Nomad, and instead of reconfigure it, I decided to just sidemount my LP72s. Both tanks were half filled, so they'd equal up to about an AL80(which Judd used) so we equalled up fine. The original plan was to hit the Alabama Point Jetties at high tide(11AM), but Judd didn't wake up in time. We decided to go check on the West Beach Paddlewheeler instead.

No other divers in site - per usual :)

Made the hike over the beach and hit the water. Surface was 82F and I never ready any cooler than 78F. Visibility was in the 10-15' range. The wreck has uncovered substantially compared to my last visit onsite! Plenty enough relief to make the dive worthwhile and lots of fish around. I managed to knife two flounder and missed on several other occassions. Saw a legal Gag and a handfull of barely legal Mangrove snapper. The boilers and the larger paddle are visible, as well as the paddle axel, and several other points of interest. Its not nearly as uncovered as it can be, but still enough to keep you busy for about an hour if you take your time and make several laps around the wreckage. Lots of juvenille tropicals, blue crab, couple big stone crab, blennies, barnacles, etc. Most of the wreck is in 11-13' of water. I hit a max depth of 14' and my total dive time was 90 minutes.

Great dive!

Hit up Gary's Gulf Diver for some fills afterwards, shot the **** shortly and hit up McD's in a hurry on the way out.

I'm out!

Good point :D

That's 'cause you're the only one who knows where it is :rofl3:

No one else knows? have other dive sites that have been know to the public been ruined from "everyone" knowing where it is? hummmmm.

Cant blame him.. He spent a lot of time and found it.. Still think as a cave diving buddy I should get a trip there.. Hint hint Mat.

I wish, I remember diving there once when someone I didn't know was out there... and he shot a perfectly good flounder that could have ended up on my stringer! Gah, horrid!

Sharing is caring! Where's the love man?

I figured I'd show the love by providing the initiative(via dive reports) for you to go forth and discover. I promise you'll enjoy it that much more that way :D

It took me two years to find it and that was by snorkeling, free diving, and getting my buddy to stick his head in the water constantly while cruising around the beaches in the Miss Jellyfish.

Paulwalls been there... twice!

Its nice having a place that doesn't have the traffic some of the wildly known sites have, or the fishing pressures.

Why does everything have to be spoonfed?
