On another note do you dive lake George? I see you are from that neck of the woods.

We usually do, but there have been a couple of times I actually found it cheaper to fly from Albany, through Newark, than to fly on the same plane out of Newark.

I will NEVER understand United Airlines...
Delta was the same way with Atlanta. Lorenzoid lives in ATL as I recall, and has said it's cheaper to drive to another airport and fly back into ATL to go to Bonaire.

I do dive Lake George some. Mostly Hearthstone Point. I do solo clean the lake dives and skills practice. Vis is pretty poor. I've heard it's better from a boat but spending $85 a pop for cold water and no fish ... I used to go to the Rogers Rock Invitational that my ex (long story) scuba club holds every year. Vis is better but again - cold and not much to see unless diving from a boat.

I mostly dive with NYSDA. They go to a variety of places. Some are regular every year (Valcour, St. Lawrence, Lake George) and they also do other lakes like Blue Mountain, Skaneateles, Horseshoe occasionally - depends on the year.

I dove Brant as a volunteer for milfoil remediation. That's over (long story) but I have another volunteer gig at Moreau State Park this summer. Quite a bit closer to me than LG or Brant.

I'll be taking video/pictures of mat placement and hand picking areas too sparse to lay mats. I'll probably be able to talk the ranger into some recreational diving. It's clear cold water with a population of very large rainbow trout. I'd like to get down into the 50' hole to see if that's where they congregate over the summer.

I also dive the docks once a year at Pyramid Life Center to clean up what gets dropped by accident or intentionally. I'm going to be looking for some ADK lakes that are clearer than LG. Not sure I'll find any but Hearthstone is getting pretty boring.

Probably do a dive or two in Saratoga Lake. I also might try diving the deep hole in Catskill Creek after striped bass season. I'm also inclined to try to make the hike from the parking area down to Shelving Rock (east side of LG). The water is clear there and has interesting topography. There's a wide path that I can probably run a hand truck down with my gear strapped on.

Kharon does NOT drive to EWR.

Yep, yep, yep - Kharon doesn't drive to Newark (or JFK) - nope, nope, nope :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

Newark to Bon is $613, from Albany $745. Even if I didn't get a hotel room the tolls, gas, and parking go way more than $132. If I have to stay overnight it's a ton more. And there's the 6-8 hours of driving. Nope, nope, nope.

Ugh. Here there are always rental cars to move out of state and down East/South, which means via Chicago. I've a work perk where one-way rental from here to O'Hare, for "personal" travel is less than one bus ticket form here to O'Hare. With 2 people going... and of course it's only a 2-hour drive.

For some reason on the way back they never have cars on that perk, only for the full price of one-way rental. No matter how early you try to reserve one. Weird, that.

I may think about driving from Lansing to Albany for that price.

I just did some checks. There are some sat-sat weeks for $690 out of Boston with 7-8hr trip times. That is pretty standard from my experience. Never gotten there and back for much less than $700 rt.
