TLDR;
My LDS is saying they can't service my 1st and 2nd stage reg without also servicing my Air2, which I just purchased from them (from their certification fleet). Is this normal?

The long version:
A few weeks ago, I bought a used bcd with an Air2 Octo from my LDS. I assumed the bc and octo were all set with servicing. I paid significantly more for this than I would have on eBay/Letgo/CL/OfferUp because I wanted to support them and I know the dive business is hard.

I also just purchased a used 1st and 2nd stage from a local guy on Letgo and took it to my LDS for servicing. They told me they couldn't service the 1st/2nd without also servicing my Air2 at the same time. Something about pressure testing with everything attached that I didn't fully understand. I said I was confused because I just purchased the bcd from them and assumed the Air2 Octo had been serviced. They said it had not.

So, in addition to the higher purchase price of the bcd, they won't service the 1st/2nd without also doing a full-service on the Air2 I just purchased from them, which adds $30-$60 to the cost of the bcd which I could have bought, unserviced, on eBay for 1/2 price.

So, my questions are:
  1. Is it normal for a LDS to sell unserviced, used equipment?
  2. If so, is it normal that they don't tell you it needs servicing?
  3. Is it required for a LDS to service all regs at the same time and not just the 1st/2nd?
  4. If you buy a used 1st/2nd and get it serviced, is there some danger in not also servicing the Octo at the same time, assuming it has been serviced recently?
Thanks in advance for replies. I'd really like to trust my LDS but this isn't a good look. Maybe I just don't understand how it works. :|

So, my questions are:
  1. Is it normal for a LDS to sell unserviced, used equipment? Anything is possible, not just one "normal." I would not sell without servicing first, unless it had been done fairly recently, but then I would not be trying to sell it...
  2. If so, is it normal that they don't tell you it needs servicing? Same as above
  3. Is it required for a LDS to service all regs at the same time and not just the 1st/2nd? They are really looking out for you. Most/many "Air2" style units from various manufacturers are NOT balanced, and should be tuned with the 1st stage they will be used with for proper performance. Mandatory versus strongly recommended? That is harder to say.
  4. If you buy a used 1st/2nd and get it serviced, is there some danger in not also servicing the Octo at the same time, assuming it has been serviced recently? See above. Could free flow more easily, or may be more difficult to breathe when needed.

that is weird, they will want to hook up your air 2 to your new reg post service and do a function test, in fact they should.

But if they just sold to you and are demanding a service, ask them why a dive shop would sell not serviced and not tell you

At most it will need to be adjusted to the IP of the new first stage. Less than 3 mins work if going slow

It's really disappointing to say the least. :(

They said it would need a complete overhaul.
well.. I would inquire about their return policy on the BCD with air 2 you bought that in their view is not serviceable without service and they sold it to you not fit for purpose

I agree that they are looking out for you. The Air2 needs to be there when they set the IP on the first stage. Air2s are really touchy. But if they don;t need to service it otherwise, they don't need to service it now.

Seems a bit over the top.

My LDS does not sell used gear that hasn’t been serviced. That’s part of their “deal” is that your used gear is always newly serviced with fresh parts when applicable

Their return policy is store credit only.
