I know theres a ton of threads on here regarding weight, but I thought I'd start a whole new one. :14: I just went and did a weight test for all my new new gear today and was a little suprised at the results. I was wearing a 7mm suit, 7mm boots, and 7mm gloves, I know a little warm. I ended up needing 22 pounds total, of course a few pounds more when I wear my hood. Does this sound about normal? I know about all the specifics that go into weight, but does this sound like the right ball park, or am I just differant? I quess I was just expecting more into the 18lb range. Oh, and I was in salt water.

Without knowing your height, weight, and how much muscle mass vs. body fat you have. It would be almost impossible to hazard a guess at something like this. However, there are a lot of people wearing a lot more lead with a lot less neoprene.

What kind of tank were you wearing?? Me, I need about 32 lbs in a 7mm drysuit and an AL80 tank. Thats in fresh water though.

It's in the range or normal but:
What was the cylinder
Was it salt or fresh water
What style is the wetsuit, Farmer John or a fullsuit

Not that I can be any more specific with that info. I just wanted to point out that these facts can have a huge impact.

Assuming you were diving with an aluminum tank, that sounds pretty good to me, especially since you were in salt water. We do open water dives with students around here and, invariably in the same setup - 7mm neoprene everything, aluminum tank, and typically weighting is in the 22-24lb range. And that's in fresh water where less weight is required for the same configuration as in salt water.

Like I said I know that there are so many factors that go into a person wieght that I wasnt even going to get into the body composition specifics. But yea it was a full one pice 7mm suit with a completly empty AL80 tank in salt water. Like I said I was just a little thrown off by the amount of weight that I needed, I'm just used to diving with so much less, but I've never dove with near this amount of neoprene before, so I just wanted to make sure I wasnt totally off base.

That's really good in comparisson. I'm almost in the same situation with an E7-80 which equates to needing almost 7 pounds less. I'm an XL person in an XL suit and I have a hooded chicken vest in that number. Again it's all realtive but I can see that you understand that, enjoy the warmth!
