It was fairly close after I subtracted 8# for my steel BP (which it didn't ask about.)

Very surprised but just tried this calculator and it is pretty well bang on for me. I have 3 mm, 5 mm, 7mm (one and two piece) wet suits and a dry suit. I punched in the numbers and the calculator came up either right on or very close for me in both fresh and salt water.

Give it a try and does it work for you?

Estimated Diving Weight Calculator | DiveBuddy.com

In a configuration I dove yesterday with no weight (Steel 80 and 5mm) it said I need 13 lbs. Even if you count the aluminum backplate it was still off by 12 lbs...

I am an experienced female diver, all of my dives are in salt water. I found it to be inaccurate by about 4-5 pounds for dive skin and 3mm and 7 pounds for 5 mm.

These weight computers are just start point guidelines. They will never replace a thorough in-water weight check. This particular weight estimator is pretty close for me, with my normal dive gear, including safety stuff, negatively buoyant fins, heavy reg set with AI computer console, and a backup 3 gauge console. If I was using typical rental gear, the numbers would probably be 4# off. Also, these computer weight estimators do not calculate for how much body fat you are trying to sink, or how compressed the wetsuit is from age and use. I also wonder how many divers inadvertently forget about that 6# SS bp when they are discussing the weight they need to dive.

No SS back plate for me. It's still 9# over. I also have a adequate layer of bioprene.

Complete waste of time. Recommended more than double what I use in a 7mm.

Might be a good place to start, it does prove that it takes what it takes, we are all different.
