Removing the whole thing does NOT work, since you have to take your BC off first - which is a major NO-NO! (el-sinko!)

You can pull the cords and hand up the pouches, but then you need to rethread them.

I climb on board with my entire kit on my back. YMMV.
 
I prefer to climb aboard fully attired as well (and fins in hand). But there is no problem with removing the BC and using it as a flotation device while removing the W & T II. Since this thread is addressing drysuit issues especially--one could just close the arm vent and inflate the suit enough to offset the W & T II until it was removed and handed up.

Good point - in a drysuit its not a big deal, but it could be wet!
