Heading to Bonaire in a week and thinking about using the 63 cf tanks instead of the 80's, had some difficulty on some entries and thought it may be easier with less weight. I have never dove with a smaller tank and wanted to know how much it would change the weight I need. Last trip I used 11 pounds. So how much would i need? All equipment will be the same so this will be the only change. Thanks Bill

I doubt you'll notice the difference. The tank holds 20% less gas than the 80, which is about a pound of gas. So when you get down to 500 psi you will be slightly lighter. In water, you'll sense very little difference. The biggest advantage is out of the water; the tank is noticeably lighter. The single most important thing -- of course -- is you will be carrying less gas so will have reduced bottom time. Watch your SPG carefully the first few times you use the 63, especially at depths below 60 ft where you use a lot more gas, and get used to the smaller gas supply.

Very little. It depends upon the brands to some degree, but at the end of a dive when the tank is getting empty, the 63 will be about 2 pounds less buoyant than an 80. Remember that although the tank is lighter, it is also smaller, and it is the buoyancy that counts.

You could drop a pound or maybe two. I usually dive 80s at some sites and 63s at others and do not bother adjusting weight.
