Im a regular visitor to the gym and was just wondering if whilst im diving in Sharm for a week am I best staying away from the hotel gym. I train 5 days a week at home but was worried about to much strenuous activity in between so many dives????????
Any views on this???????

Taking a week off from exercise every few months is a good thing, not a bad thing. If you've been working out 5 days per week for longer than 3 months straight, then a week off will actually improve your fitness long term.

You need to allow your body and your motivation to re-energize every so often. If you can't wait to get back to the gym at the end of the week off, then you'll be hitting your workouts with renewed desire and intensity. In 2-3 weeks after a rest week, you should see a good jump in your fitness.

Vacation is for vacation. In between your dives you should take naps, visit the sites, and go out to sample to local cuisine. <g>

Taking a break from the lifting won't set you back much, and will allow you to relax & enjoy your vacation without such worries as you have expressed.

If you must lift, wait 4 hours after lifting before diving, and 6 hours after diving before lifting; stay well hydrated; and, avoid injuries that may be confused with DCS.

Have fun.

I am on a two 2-day split programme and I need to go to the gym 4 times a week. Missing a training session would make me feel very guilty. However I do rest for a week or two every 3 months or so for my body to fully recover.

Also remember that diving is extremely strenuous. No matter how easy you might think it feels - it is giving you a good workout. After diving for 50 mins my legs felt like they had more of a workout than my usual leg workout (squats, press, extension, dead lifts, curls + calves)!
