I have a Dive Rite Rec Wing. Currently I have the 32# pouches, but I only have a 29" waist so they take up most of the available belt space. I'm going to switch to the 16# pouches to open up some belt space and I'm curious as to how far back I can move them without screwing up my trim. I won't get to try them out in the water before my next dive trip which will be Belize.

I have the DR SS BP with an Oxycheq 30# wing. I have the 16 lb pouch and keep them right next to the plates on each hip that way they are very comfortable. (This is when I use the pouches for weight, for DS diving I use the DUI weight and trim II). This is what works best for me, YMMV.

I'd like to move the weight pouches behind the strap plates, but I'm concerned that might be putting the weight too far toward my back as that would be behind my hips.

"Trim" is entirely different for everyone. No two bodies are positive/negatively bouyant in the same places/the same ways. What you should do is try positioning the pouches/amount of weight in different places (depending on what you find to be floaty/sinky (lol) parts of your body) and seeing what makes you most comfortable/helps you trim out in the water the best. Make a few "calm" openwater dives with a good, reliable buddy and see what works.

Cheers,
Austin

I had the same reaction when I saw the 32s that came with my transpac kit. However, once threaded around the strap plates they were nicely out of the way, tucked neatly against my sides and back and left lots of belt room. If you haven't already you should try threading the 32s this way before you drop another $100 or so on the 16s.

Mine are currently already threaded around the plates and I still don't have any real belt room. My LDS owner has offered to let me swap the ones I currently have in service for the new 16s.

Fish_Whisperer:
I thread the pouches onto the strap plates. That way, I don't need retainers and there's no chance of them sliding around.

I dive a BP/W and was looking into new pouches, as I just discovered large tears in both my DR 32# pouches (old style). Was reading this thread belatedly and was wondering what is meant by "strap plates"? Thanks, Mahjong

I'm glad you asked that question. How about a pic too?

You can't see the plate at all, but you can see the basic positioning of the pockets. Look on your TransPac and you'll see where the cummerbund strap goes through the plates on each side, that the suspenders also hook into:
