So Im trying to build or buy a BC that will help support the weight of the tank while humping in and out of shore dives. Like a regular backpack does, on the hips. My GF is a little taller than average and her BC just digs into her shoulders due to it not fitting quite right. Im thinking that a BP/W with a backpacking hip belt/cumberbun would do the trick. Anyone ever see something like this?

My buddy (woman) has the Poseidon Besea, and I've tried it a few times. It's exactly made for humping weight around - great on land since the shoulder pads barely touch you (which is kinda weird and looks a bit bulky), and the weight is carried on hips. It's quite comfy I must say both also in water, instant trim even though I was quite doubtful when looking at the size. Pricey though.

Never seen anything like it, but I do think it's an interesting idea.

I agree, I think a BP/W would be the ideal combo for this due to the overall flexibility of the design. It should be a very simple thing to add a padded hip belt from a land backpack to it.

If you do rig something up, please post pics & report your field use observation on the project.

My Aqualung "malibu" BC works as you describe. Most of the weight is carried on the hips. Like you said this depends on both design and fit. I bought my BC after tying several.

Many divers will tell you that a BC does not need to be a good backback but these divers likely do not carry thier equipment up steep trails or climb over bolders while wareing thie equipment. Here is California, many times the beach is at the ottom of a bluff, or the beach is just rocks with no sand.

Have you looked at the Diverite "Transpack". Try one on. It feels like a "real packpack" and has enough adjustments to fit anyone.. There is also now a "trans plate" which is a mettel backplate but with nicer straps like a "real packpack". The "transplate" may be what you are thinking of making yourself.

I looked at the transplate but it dosen't look like it's load bearing. I'll check out the others. Thanks.
