My wife and I have been diving for years with me using a steel hp 120 tank and her using a steel hp 100. Lots of great bottom time ;). However, we are now heading to a resort that only uses aluminum 80's. It's been so long since we have used anything except our own tanks that we are really not sure how much weight to use with the aluminium 80's. In saltwater, I normally use 6 lbs and she uses no weight. Anyone out there who can recommend good starting weight when we go to the aluminium 80's? BTW, we will still e diving in saltwater. Thanks!

Generally, your tanks are around 4 and 2 lbs neg. check the specs to be sure. If you are changing to AL 80s which are around 2-4 lbs pos, you dive salt water with the steels, just add 6-8 lbs and do a weight check.

This is a situation for a balanced rig calc.....

Add up all the neg and all the positive and add/subtract lead as required to keep you neutral at the "end" of the dive.

No change in exposure suits?

I agree - general rule of thumb would be 1 - 2kg (2.2 - 4.4lbs) extra weight but will also depend on if you're transitioning from salt to fresh and vice versa, or if you need to change your exposure suit. Start with an extra 2lbs and make a good buoyancy check before you dive.

Cheers

Hey thanks Deco and Crowley....appreciate the quick responses. No change in exposure suits....still 3 mil full wetsuits. Also still diving saltwater so not change there either. Thanks again and happy diving!
