Hey everyone I've got a new place for us to try out for this weeks Weekly Malibu Night Dive, Broad Beach! So who's in on a new(at least to me) location? I'm not sure if I'm going to dive due to this ongoing hand injury but I will be there for surface support fo sho!

Here's a page with some great info on Broad Beach: http://www.calcoastdivers.com/DiveLocations/BroadBeach.html

So who's in? Don't make me start calling out names again.

Billy

Just dove Broad Beach yesterday. It was great! I've done lots of dives there, at least 20 or so. I should be able to get out there with you guys, so I'll be happy to show y'all where the reefs are.

We saw LOTSA bugs out there yesterday, many of which were quite big, including one monster that had to be at least a 15-pounder or more. I know where I wanna be on opening night. :D We also saw a HUGE electric ray -- my first one! He was a good 4 1/2 ft long. That was quite exciting.

Anyway, I expect to be out there this week. Billy I hope your hand gets better! Oh, and I just bought my first underwater camera, so that'll be my first chance to try it out. After a year of diving (at 96 dives and counting) I finally feel ready to try underwater photography. I'm always everyone else's spotter -- time for me to start taking my own pictures.

Congrats on the new purchase LeeAnne! Once you figure out your new setup I'd love to see the pics you take. What did you get?

I hope I'm able to dive on Wednesday this sounds like an awesome spot. Count me in for the night after opening night! I've surfed at this beach a bunch of times but I'm not sure where the reefs are. If you could guide those that show up that would be awesome.

I'll be there Wednesday.

Meet up between 7:00-7:30PM? Where to meet?

Okay I just read the directions on that link, and that's about as good as it gets. The important point is that there are two access gates -- we definitely want to go in at the second one. And they can be hard to spot if you're not really looking. So if you're driving up the road (having entered across from Howe's Market), if you end up back at PCH, turn around and head on back down and look for the gate between houses. It opens up to a short staircase and a narrow passage right down to the sand.

High tide on Wed. night will be at 5:30 pm, so the earlier the better, if we want decent vis. I can get there by about 6:30...is it possible for you guys to get there a little earlier? However, if 7:30 works best for everyone else, that's fine too. Just let me know. There should be ample parking right outside the gate at that time. There's a nice sandy strip along the road opposite the gate, so you can comfortably park off the road and have room to stage and gear up.

I will be happy to navigate to the reefs. I've been there enough times, so I know where they are.

I can't believe I'm FINALLY going to make it to one of Billy's Wed. night dives! About time, I say. ;)

I can probably get there by 7pm if I don't get lost along the way since I've never been there. If I can get there earlier, I will try. I am coming from west Los Angeles and typically don't get out of work until 6pm. I agree that earlier is probably better though since we can get done earlier so I don't have to be washing my gear at home past midnight. LOL! If everyone else diving that day is able to get there earlier than 7pm, then I'll see if I can leave work early, but in my brief experience, it seems like people are always running late rather than early...

In any case, you guys can decide the time, and I'll aim to be there then.
