I'm looking for a short 3 to 4 day weekend to go diving. I live in NYC and the plan would be fly out late thurs and dive fri and sat and return sun. I've dove in Florida many times and was never happy with the diving. Any suggestions? Was thinking Cozumel.

Thanks

J

Hi jscheier,

For such a short trip I would fly to West Palm and dive in Boynton Beach/Jupiter. I have an inexpensive direct flight, car rental is easy, there are several bargin hotels, and the diving is excellent and varied. I use Underwater Explorers and Jupiter Dive Center.

If you've tried these locations in FL and are disappointed with them, a weekend in Cozumel certainly does not sound half bad and is probably one of the least expensive spots you could choose. I would generally like to stay longer than a couple days. Maybe you could return on Monday and get in an extra day of diving, that's what I usually do.

Best, Craig

Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the suggestions. Right now I have narrowed down to the following:

Key Largo
Cozumel
Morehead City

I'm learning towards Cozumel, just not looking forward to the extra travel from Cancun to Cozumel.

Why not Bermuda or the Bahamas? Short flight..,

Key largo would be great as you don't have to mess with customs and all that for a weekend,

Interesting choice with the Morehead City call. We dive Nitrox 30% out of NC a lot because the depths are usually 100-120'

Waters are pretty cold right now, looking at upper 50s with crappy vis. I would definitely wait until the summer to dive NC unless you pack a drysuit. You might get lucky and run into a pair of sand tigers though, a popular practice is to look for shark teeth on the decks of the wrecks.

Aren't there alot of non-stops to St Marteen from New York?
