Website?

Ok so now that the mascot is decided (we'll look into t-shirts and other goodies once crpntr133 and/or MsParamedic have a chance to do some sprucing), I guess it's time to move on to the next order of business.

All of the clubs have the option of creating a club website. As I understand it SB provides the space and the domain registration and we provide the content.

Is this something we are interested in? If so we need some volunteer webmasters. I have the ability but lack the desire and time, though I'd be willing to help out dedicated webmaster(s) if needed. If anyone is willing to take over such a project it's time to speak up!

I know a couple of the other clubs are working on a database of dive sites (based on the format of the sticky post I put up for dive sites). I'm pretty sure they'd be willing to share.

I knew this was coming. I like the idea but I am in the opposite boat. I have the time, for the most part, but don't have the knowledge.

Still haven't gotten motivated to work on the logo.

I have some experience with it, and I have the time right now...But I think very soon I will not have any time when my DMC starts. I dont want to commit to anything, and not be able to see it through.

What all is included for the website? I have a couple of friends that created a nice event tracking/planning application that requires MySQL and PHP. I dabbled with it and started to mimic it in ASP. The application allows for Dive Site information, Used their forum IDs, and allowed anyone with access to post an event for others to sign up. The application was designed with paintball in mind but should translate well to SCUBA.

Does this sound like something that might be worth persuing?

This sounds like a good idea! The only issue would be hosting I think. I currently host a board on a rinky-dink dual PPro 200 at home, but it's a small site with only around 600 members, and only a fraction of that number logged on at one time. Unfortunately I wouldn't have neither the time nor the bandwidth to host another site. There are cheap hosting options, and a domain name is next to free, but there's always that BUT - someone will end up paiying for it, and I do think that dues will scare a lot of people away from such a group.
