The most important thing (to me) is to read the contract before uploading any images to any 'free' website.
They typically say things like
"if you are the copyright holder, for everything you upload you are giving the right to sell your images if we can and not give you a penny. If you stole the image, and we use it and we get caught, then it's all your fault."
