Chamber Day/Eve is a little over a week away and now’s great time for you to get prepared to participate in what we hope will be one of our most interesting undertakings to date: The creation of the book Through the Lens: A Chronicle of Chamber Day 2007.

Simply put, this full-color, 80-100 page soft-bound book (which is available for sale at a pre-event price of $65 . . . it’ll be $75 after May 2) is a pictorial record of Chamber Day and Chamber Eve 2007. We intend to have images and sections covering the following:

• History of the Chamber and the event
• All the logos from 1989 to present
• Topside shots from various boats on their way to the Chamber on May 2
• Underwater images from the first dive
• Each boat with divers and crew when they arrive at the Chamber
• Touring the Chamber facilities
• Underwater images from the second dive
• The Aquarium of the Pacific & Chamber Evening
• Divers exploring AOP
• Shots of a table for each table sponsor
• Raffle winners and Chamber Eve presentations
• The check presentation to Karl Huggins

In short, we intend for this book to be a complete sunrise-to-midnight record of Chamber Day and Chamber Eve. But we can’t do it without your help. And what we need from you are digital photos - and lots of them - from both above and below the water.

It doesn’t matter if you consider yourself a good photographer or not. We’re betting that if you shoot enough (and remember, we need topside images as well as underwater stuff), you’ll get a couple of great ones. Photos can be serious, humorous, documentary-style, obvious setups, or whatever strikes your visual fancy. Our only “rule” is that the shot MUST be taken on May 2

We’ll give you full details later on, but basically you’ll have from May 3-8 to get your images to us. We’re setting up an FTP site so you can simply sit down at your computer, go to our site, create a folder for yourself, upload your images, and you’re done. You’re welcome to crop, adjustment exposure, and clean up the shots in whatever way you like. So give us your “best shot” for each image you submit. There’s no limit on the number of shots you can submit. (And everyone who submits at least one image will be entered in a raffle drawing for some more prizes.)

On May 9, we’ll start reviewing all submitted images and make our final selections for publication. Our goal is to have the book ready for pickup (and additional sales) at the Chamber booth at the Scuba Show June 2 & 3.

While there’s no requirement to pre-register, it would be nice to have some idea ahead of time of how many of you are thinking of participating. If you’re interested in doing this, send an e-mail to chamberday@aol.com and make the subject line “Book Photos.” Tell us who you are and what boat you’re on if you’re doing the daytime event or what table you’re at if you’re doing the nighttime event.

We have high hopes for this book being a truly special keepsake. And with your help, we can achieve that goal. Let us know if you have questions.

It’s time to submit your images for our Chamber Day 2007 book, Through the Lens: A Chronicle of Chamber Day 2007.

We’re betting that if you shoot enough (and remember, we need topside images - day and evening - as well as underwater stuff), you’ll get a couple of great ones. Photos can be serious, humorous, documentary-style, obvious setups, or whatever strikes your visual fancy. Our only “rule” is that the shot MUST be taken on May 2

You’ve got until May 8 to get your images to us. You’re welcome (and encouraged, actually) to crop, adjustment exposure, and clean up the shots in whatever way you like. So give us your “best version” for each image you submit. There’s no limit on the number of shots you can submit but please don‘t just send us everything you shot. Pare them down.

Everyone submitting at least one image will be entered in a special raffle. We’ll draw three names and each winner will receive a $100 gift certificate courtesy of Samy’s Camera and you can use that to add to or improve your photography through Samy’s whatever way you desire.

Here are all the guidelines for submitting pictures:

• Submitted images must have been taken on May 2, 2007
• Images must be submitted in JPG format
• Images should be no more than 1000 pixels tall
• Individual image file sizes should be no larger than 1MB (If any of your images are chosen for the book, we may need the full-sized original picture file)
• Scanned images from slides or prints are fine, but we cannot do the scanning for you
• All images must be submitted no later than 6PM on Tuesday, May 8th
• Images can be submitted via e-mail (as an attachment) or by mail (burned to a CD)
• E-mail submissions should be sent to chamberday@aol.com
• If you can, put your e-mailed images into a ZIP file (limit ZIP files to 10MB each)
• You may send more than one ZIP file
• Mailed CDs should be sent to: Ken Kurtis, P.O. Box 11634, Beverly Hills, CA 90213
• If you mail a CD, send us an e-mail as well so we’ll know to look for the CD in our PO box
• Photographer grants the Chamber permission to use the image in our book
• Photographer retains all other rights to the image
• Images will be chosen for the book based on quality, subject matter, & uniqueness
• All decisions of the image selection committee are final
• Images not chosen will be deleted from our files
• All images used in the book will include a printed photo credit to the photographer
• All photographers submitting at least one image will be entered in a special raffle
• Three winners will be drawn, and each will receive a $100 gift certificate from Samy’s Camera

And don’t forget to reserve your very own copy of our book (really YOUR book). You can do this through our website at www.chamberday.org or by calling 310/652-4990. Cost is $65 through Sunday night (May 6) and $75 after that. We anticipate being able to put the book in your hands at the Scuba Show June 2 &3.

Thanks for being part of Chamber Day and our book project. We literally can’t do it without you.
