We try to make the trip a couple of times a year from Southern Wisconsin. There are a ton of big bass and a ton of bluegills & sunnies by the fish cribs in about 30' off the shore.
Here are a couple of pix from there:

2.5 hours NW would put you really close to Hockeynut land. Where exactly will you be?

There is a dive flag requirement ;) although I've never seen it enforced.

They don't allow gas boats on the lake, but I think electric eel motors are OK. I rarely see fishing boats out there.

If you are staying in town, check out Molly's- they have a nice prime rib. The Majestic Pines Casino has a cheap buffet and not so cheap entertainment. There are a few hotels and campgrounds in the area. The Super 8 is better than most other not-so-Super 8s because it used to be under different ownership. There is also a Holiday Inn Express.

For fills and dive shop needs- Keith at Wazee Sports is the one you want. He, O2, Argon, and he can even fill your paint ball gun.
