Hello.

I am going to be in Hawaii, doing some fun stuff in the wet stuff and wondered if anyone had any tips about watertight bags (like a fanny pack?) that we can use to keep our keys, credit cards, phones and whatnot in while we're under? We do not want to leave our stuff on the beach...

Many thanks.

Check out the small bags they sell for kayaking. I found a small vinyl bag that you roll down and buckle shut making a nice carry handle. Had an opaque bottom but otherwise it was clear vinyl. Kept everything dry and things were easy to spot/find because it was transparent. Pretty sure it was at REI but I would imagine that just about any place that sells kayak/canoe stuff would have them.

I like the clear drybags because I can see where (if) something is in there without dumping everything out. My phone rings, need lipstick, etc.

are those waterproof at depth?

What a responsive forum! AWESOME guys!

That stuff, as well as money is already waterproof

phones

Nothing. Really. Not worth paying for or risking your electronic gear over. Pelican/ Otter etc boxes are good to a few feet, but then you have a buoyancy issue.

How about... don't bring 'em or lock that pesky "whatnot" in the trunk, or....

In short, there is nothing waterproof in this world. The more water resistant things are the more expensive and bulky they get.

REI and LeisurePro both sell the Witz line of waterproof sport cases. They're small with a lanyard so you can wear it around your neck etc. I've used one for the last 5 yrs. at depths of up to 90' with no leaks. There's at least two sizes, one for credit cards/cash/keys and a bigger one that might take a flip-phone. The Otter boxes are generally larger.

If you're in the Phoenix area, El Mar in Mesa has the Otter boxes in about 3-4 different sizes.
