I am planning on doing some shore diving down in the Charlestown, RI area over the next 2 weeks.

I was swimming at the site I'll be diving at this past weekend -- no temp gauge with me, but I would guess the surface water temp was 69-70.

Can anyone give me some idea of what temps they've seen while diving in RI recently -- surface and bottom?

Thanks.

Those numbers are pretty accurate. The coldest I've seen at depth this year (85fsw) was 64F. It's pretty warm right now and if your diving in RI this week you should have really nice temps/conditions.

Been high 60's the past few weeks and this weekend seems to be no exception. Have a great dive.

I have dove in the Carribean and seen divers with hoods. I would say yes in NE, but hey it's up to you if you are comfortable enough without a hood. I figure you lose a lot of heat without one as your body is warmer than 60's. It's all a matter of your comfort and safety.

Dove King's Beach and Ft. Adams in '02 and I was uncomfortably hot w/ the hood so I ditched and was fine for the rest of the dives there. Went down to 60fsw at Adams.
