Hi Gang: Am going to be spending time on the Garden Island in about 3 1/2 weeks and I am wondering if anyone on the board can give me some info on what I can expect water temperature to be this time of year. Don't mean to be picky but not the usual info of what you wear, either 3mil, 7mil, etc. as we all have different tolerances to the cold. Just want to know if anyone has info on what the actual water temps are now or what the usual average water temp is the first part of October. Thanks for any info!!

Hi. 27 Deg is rather optimistic I think. Currently the temp is about 24-25 Deg C (76-77 F). It is unlikely to change much in a few weeks. This is based on southern Fiji water temp, where I am based, but there is little variation so expect the same. 5mm suits a good idea.
Have a look at the Naia's temp data here.

Have a great trip.

Thanks so much bax 737 & fiji diver for the 1st hand info. We don't actually arrive on Taveuni until Oct. 16th. so hoping it will warm up slightly by then. Are staying at Garden Island Resort and this will be our second visit to Fiji. Were there 6 years ago just one week after Tomas and saw just how everyone there pulled together after that so we wanted to show some support after Winston.

Hi. Not that I doubt bax737, just the computer, so I just asked one of the instructors working in Taveuni now and they say, not 27 but closer to 24-25. Even in the hottest recorded year September has never been over 26Deg C so I have to suspect a dodgy temperature sensor. Expect a 1 Deg rise between now and end of Nov. Have a great trip.
