Doc's Pro Plugs or hood helps (I don't use the two together, the plugs get all messed up under the hood). Or instead of the plugs in warm water, a swimmer's cap pulled down over the ears. But water still gets in. Best thing is to try to keep your head straight (ei, looking down, up, or straight ahead). Don't look sideways quickly, or it rushes in. If you want to be tricky and flip all the way around to swim on your back, you're asking for an earfull. Be careful when donning fins in water-- again, try to look straight ahead. Yes, the eardrops work very well after diving. Some people (like me) are prone to painful "swimmer's ear". Thus I usually use the hood even when cold water is not a factor

Whenever I turn my head certain positions or at certain angles, I get water rushing into my ear. I immediately turn my head back to stop it. At the end of the dive I can usually shake the water out or turn my head to the side and let it drain.

Is this normal?

I always thought it was, but I see DMs seemingly turn their heads in all sorts of positions without any issues. I see them go inverted or look underneath them effortlessly...am I doing something wrong???

Since that you're underwater and unless you have a hard hat on, chances are you will get water in your ears. And I don't think that an Instructor C-Card is going to keep water out of your ears if you don't dive with a hard hat.
