When in Sportsman's warehouse today I bought a Camelback Unbottle hydration pack. It holds 70 ounces and is perfect to mount on the back of a tank. The shape is long and it is not a backpack style. Straps mount perpendicular and will go around the tank. A nylon "handle" can go over the first stage to keep it from slipping down. http://www.worldclassgear.com/camelbak_unbottle.asp

Has anyone tried mounting and using a water bladder? Any idea how bouyant it is? (Figured I "sink it" in the kitchen sink with weights) I thought it might be worth trying next time I go to the pool to work on weighting with my new tanks and new BC.

I'd think you wouldn't leave any air in the bladder so it wouldn't be bouyant at all.

No air will be in the bladder but the nylon cover is actually a thin insulation and it will trap some air.

An alternative to mounting a large camelback or scuda system is simply slipping one or more Capri Sun juice pouches into your BCD pocket. They are foil pouches holding 6.75 ounce/200ml, sold in most grocery stores. Just like the camelback and scuda systems, the pouches are flexible and collapse as you drink.

While 200ml might not be enough for long dives with doubles, they work for my AL80 single tank dives. Just one pouch during each dive was enough for me yesterday when I did a couple shallow shore dives of 87 minutes and 116 minutes.

While simplistic, the downside of the Capri Sun packs is that they are just a one shot deal. You can't drink half, and then drink the other half 30 minutes later.

If you problem is "cotton mouth" rather than true thirst, the very simplest solution is "rinse and spit". Just remove reg, suck in some water/saltwater, gargle and spit.

- and - if it is indeed thirst - you're already dehydrated - too late, now.

Drink like a fish before the dive. Water is the key. If you dive and don't have to pee, you are dehydrated. Simple test.
