I’m an AOW diver and recently dove with Nitrox (33) for the first time. Two dives... 75 ft / 60 ft, stayed well within NDL limits with an hour surface interval. During my 2nd dive at 60 feet, I had this overwhelming sensation of being drunk/fuzzy/stoned. I ascended to 55 feet and it went away. Towards the end of the dive had issues with cramping, but otherwise, those were the only unusual sensations. I’ve been working on my air consumption by trying to breathe slower. Long slow inhales... long slow exhales. SAC was 16, which was a record low.
Was this buzzed feeling nitrogen narcosis? Or something else?
I’ve had no issues on deeper dives with air, and no issues on the 1st Nitrox dive to 75ft. Puzzled about what happened. I dove with an inactive instructor and she indicated possibly vertigo, but I’ve experienced vertigo once (a long time ago) and this felt different... plus it went away as soon as I ascended a few feet.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
