I think this is a real issue. Wart virus (HPV) usually don't live very long in the environment. But in damp, dark, wet places - they live longer.

I really wonder if this is an issue with rental wet suits... With the prevalence of HPV quite high, I wonder if this can happen?
 
Great question! I don't know of any real epidemiological studies on virus/bacterial transmission on wetsuit material, but... It makes one wonder, no?

That's one of the reasons why Laura and I "invested" in our own wetsuit before starting our OW cert classes.

Well, that and the fact that I really don't like the idea of wearing someone's used "diaper".
