My wife an I just returned from a wonderful week on Bonaire but wanted to relay news of recent break ins at Divi Flamingo and Capt Don's. We stayed at Divi Flamingo and two rooms right next to ours were broken into on Friday night. No details, but the one room my wife saw was trashed - dresser drawers and luggage strewn about. While waiting in the US Customs line, we spoke to two guys who had their rooms broken into at Capt Don's last Monday night - they took the locked safes right off the walls. The local police returned their passports a few days later saying they found them on the side of the road (suspicious). This was very surprising since we felt very safe the entire time we were on the island.

I still highly recommend Bonaire for a dive vacation, but be aware of the risks.
