Never been on a Kelp dive and will be in the area both days and heading back up to NoCal on Wed. I've done a little research and nosing around on some websites but thought i'd check and see if anyone had any suggestions for a must do dive or dive opts. Kind of considering a Catalina trip. Basically, would just like to get in a couple dives while in the area. Any suggestions as to who to go through..... Another consideration is i'll be staying w/ a friend who is kind of interested in going. Might have him talked into a DSD or even might just want to tag along for a boat trip. Not that a boat trip is a necessity, shore dives would be fine w/ me as well. Any suggestions folks?

Thanks!

Go to Catalina dive park (Casino Point), viz has been great and lots of kelp. Weekdays are almost empty; should have a great time.

Book on the Catalina Express
$59-$61 round trip

1 mile walk or a cab for $10 to dive park.

Catalina Diver Supply 8am-4pm
Fills $6
you can rent your gear there too

Food at local grease joint $12

Cost a bit more than a boat, but I prefer this place for a best of ''SoCal diving" in one place.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Both dive operations in Catalina are excellent. Also diving the Casino Dive park is very nice as well.
Visit California Dive Boats for a listing of boats that regularly visit Catalina. Great Escape and the SunDiver are favorites.

DrBill should check in soon and add some more learned advice.
