Hi,
I am a marine biologist (and highly experience diver) that is planning to make a trip to dive on a couple of deep reefs about 12 miles offshore Alys Beach. I am on the hunt to photograph a soft coral known as 'sun polyps' (Palythoa grandis), and also to collect some for the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, FL, and the Miami Science Museum's new reef aquarium exhibit. A few polyps will be sent to Japan for DNA analysis. I have all the necessary collection permits for them.
I have the GPS coordinates. The only thing I am lacking is a boat and a knowledgeable diver or two to take me out there. I have a budget for the trip, so paying for costs like time and fuel are not a problem for me.
I was hoping to do the dive on Saturday June 18th, but I am flexible.
I keep a boat in Key West (but based out of Miami), so in the future I can potentially return the favor if you ever want to dive down here.
Thanks!
Colin
