wendy
ps. where did you get the green divin guy?

darly, maybe the ladder is a old lady thing...lol....glad you had great times as i did . it was really special and i want to do some of the others also. But i am really wanting to go to Cosumel this time and dive with the whale sharks..i hear they are there till aug...so i am hoping it all comes together.

Hmmm, I didn't hear anything about going to Coz for whale sharks. One of the dive masters and I had a long talk about them because they were offering a trip to a place named "The box" that was further south than Tulum, where you went to an island and left from there to snorkel with the whale sharks. I was told that they didn't do dive trips with them because the air from the regulators often scares them off. I know I have seen plenty of pics of people in dive gear with whale sharks, so I don't know how much it scares them.

Good morning...yes you are right. I will have to go to Holbox to see them a small island off Cancun. But I am hoping I can roll all my dreams into one vacation. At first the thread confused me, some folks mentioned Cozumel in the mix . Thanks for you note and sorry I misspelled your name. Fast Fingers....make mistakes.

My husband and I went cave diving last October, and we stayed at the Wyndham Maya, which is an all-inclusive. Because it was low season, we got a pretty incredible rate -- It was something around $120 a day for both of us. I don't know if that's what you consider budget or not, but when you realize it includes all your meals, it's a pretty good price. This WAS in Playa, which is not all that convenient to the cenotes, though. A rental car is a HUGE expense, but I believe some of the dive ops that do cenote tours will pick you up in Playa. The ferry to Coz from there is $24 round trip.

There are some small hotels down in the Akumal/Tulum area as well, but some of them look rather . . . questionable.

I just got back less than a week ago. I stayed at Casa de Gopala in Playa. Around $45/ night and the dive shop is right around the corner (Yucatek Divers). Great operation, decent rates, good location. No need to rent a car as you can walk everywhere you need to be in Playa, including the ferry terminal to Coz.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!
I was in Coz in April and used Dive with Martin. For 17 dives which included 1 night dive, a dive video and my AOW cert, I paid $490 US (less than $30 per dive). They have great packages available through their website (Home Page). Stayed at the Iberostar (AI) which was pricey and not very good. Next time, I'll be closer to town.

Thank you KRBailey that is news to me and I will look them up. That is a great dive price...I am looking for a package. I think you get better dive rates. An all inclusive hotel is about 110.00 to 120.00 a day for food and room. Last year we did an "MBL" package stands for meals etc....at MayaTulum and it was delightful. All the yoga you want, meals a room on the beach and two massages. So i am a bit spoiled. I do want to stay on Coz and maybe if i can afford it do two days in Tulum for the cenotes. Money is an issue but i am not gonna ruff it too much...lol. thnaks again

thanks. The hotels in Tulum are 50/50 some are great and some are more like hostels. We found a great one last year. But your suggestion is a good one. 120.00 for all inclusive low season is about right. I am leaning more towards staying in Coz and getting a package with air and dive and seeing if i can get the price down if i package it all in one. whew its hard on a small budget to get to dive as much as i want. If i dont order cocktails i bet i can save hundreds. lol. thanks for the info. wendy
