Okay, the weather here today is a whopping high of 20 and it's snowing. Usually I like snow, when I'm inside and there is a fire going and I have no place to go...but today I have a lot of running around to do with clients, classes, etc.
All I've been dreaming about lately is chucking it all and becomming a beach bum. :)
Let's talk about our wanderlust...I know I'm not the only one out there with these fantasies and we could get some good conversations rolling with this topic! Hey, it could even be scuba-related!!!

Okay, the weather here today is a whopping high of 72 and it's sunny. Usually I like sun, when I'm outside and there is a BBQ going (later tonight) and I have no place to go...but today I have a lot of running around to do with clients, classes, etc.

WoW Mo2! I bet you like BBSpot.com and somethingawful.com to dont you?!

Carebear - there are reasons why I'll never really leave where I live. I dont mind travel for work and I dont mind vacations elsewhere, but there is something to be said for living in the tropics. :)

I am starting to take Walters war cry of "I need to move somewhere warm for the winter, spend my summers in FL" more seriously... when is that guy in Cuba going to croak so I can move further south?!

I plan on moving to a sunny beach in Mexico, in the next 9 - 10 years. I had planned on going to Coz, but I am now leaning towards a couple remote small towns on the Pacific Coast.
Oh yeah, I'll be :martini:  :snorkel: :scubadive:

When my kids are older...i would love to move to a warm climate and start over. Not sure what a good age would be....right now they are 3 and 5. Perhaps Bonaire ... but its not me that I am concerned about adjusting..its my children. So as far as a fantasy or "wanderlust"...i must plan it and can't just fly by the seat of my pants.

Probably after they are both certified!

That's why I'm not taking the kids! My youngest kid is 9, so that's why I'm planning to go in about 9 more years.

All I can say is follow your dreams while you're young. Far too soon life forces us to grow up and think of others things.

I have given serious thought to writing more and seeing if I can't find someone to publish it! Then I could write about my diving.

Problem:

Reality intrudes. I have over ten years with my current employer and they aren't about to build a plant in a tropical area. I am not about to throw away my retirement and steady job in a poor job market to become a beach bum. So I guess that I still go to work most every day and dive when I get the chance. On occassion maybe I'll save enough vacation time to go somewhere warm. But, for the most part I have a good playground of wrecks to dive up here with preservation of said wrecks that is not available in warm and/or salt water. And in the end, I will be where I was meant to be and it will be good enough.

There has been several time over the past few years that I have wanted to sell everything I own and buy a sail boat and leave all my issues behind. I have to agree with what has been said in this thread, do everything that you want while your young and without children. Life is too short not to live it to the fullest.

A few years ago, make it 20 plus a few, I was working as an aircraft mechanic. I was fresh out of the service and had nobody depending on me. I was getting back into diving after a few years away and had just gottem my DM card.

A guy I worked with, Bobby, was having a hard time in life. He had a crappy family situation and a head full of memories of a nasty place called Cu-Chi. One day it got on top of him and he blew his own head off.

A few days later I asked a guy I knew who helped run a little resort in the Bahamas if he needed another divemaster. I never regretted it.
