Much has been written about Wakatobi and the main question seems to be cost. Yep, it's expensive. However, we were looking for a dive trip and a vacation combined for this trip and Wakatobi did not disappoint. Our LDS group of 20 just returned from Wakatobi and we split our time half at the resort and half on the live-a-board, the Pelagian. We also split our group because the boat only holds ten. The consensus of the group was that only Palau was equal as a diving experience and the Pelagian was the best live-a-board yet. For my wife and me, this combined truly spectacular diving with an amazingly relaxing, pampered vacation. We do the dive, eat, sleep thing and enjoy that as well, but this was a special treat. Food was outstanding and they would make whatever you asked, including any vegetarian dish my wife wanted. Bungalow was beautiful and so many helpful staff. The Pelagian is way big in terms of cabin, relaxation space and camera room. Though no dive deck as this is a converted luxury boat, but they have a system that makes gearing up, boarding the tenders, wetsuit removal, etc. so very easy. Three hot water hoses on each side for each tender means, wash off of suit, booties and self was delightful. To make it all work, staff does everything, which was weird at first, but you realize it ultimately makes their lives easier. Light breakfast, dive at 6:45, full breakfast, dive again at 10:15, lunch, dive at 2:15, big snack, night dive at 5:40, then dinner. Great muck diving so they suggested we might want to stay two days at the piers for more muck and we did. Wonderful dive crew, Judith, Ramon and Ismael.
So, as our first Indonesia diving experience, a major success. From what we heard from everyone, Raja is next.
