Heya,

I'm reading up on different equipment brands for my job in a LDS and notice on the Apeks site, they really stress that their wing can be strapped onto bottles w/o a bp and vice versa (Nice for no BC divers).

My Halcyon one can't do this and I'm trying to think for what reason you might want to use this configuration?

Seems to me it would cause deformation of the wing and probably displacement of the rig as well. The do have a very thick removable back pad but this doesnt seem to provide much structure.

Any ideas?

I believe you would still need at WTX harness to secure it to the diver. I have not used a WTX harness but in my mind I envision the WTX harness with a wing being similar to a Zuma in fit and carry, only stouter.

That's right! You need the WTX harness or a backplate to use the Apeks wings. But you don't need a single tank adapter.

Ok so given, harness is necessary to keep the thing on, but you can wear it soft, without the BP?

Do you folks know of anyone who does?

Thanks for the responses!

not very different than Dive Rites Transpac is it ?
intended to be used without a backplate.
conversely - since changing from a vest type BC to the transpac - i'm at the point where i'm not at all certain why you'd want to add a backplate !

I have an oms iq softpack that I use with a 32 pound wing, no backplate or singletank adaptor for single tanks. I keep my ss backplated bolted to my doubles. If you want to use a continuous web harness you are going to need a backplate. The iq has adjustable straps and quick releases and slots for tank cam bands.

Same for the WTX harness. Uses adjustable straps and quick releases.

So it's kind of somewhere between the jacket style BC and BPW?

Is this configuration as stable as a BPW?

It sounds like it's comfort over balance then? What I like about my BP is that it covers me for 6lbs of lead, trims me out and spreads the weight over my lungs.

Do wish I'd gotten the Infinity instead of the single weave Eclipse sometimes, maybe thatll change as I get more into tech.
