After much time wasted, I'm ready to return the Suunto cable and adapter to the LDS and say to heck with it unless someone here can show me the solution.
I've used my Vyper for about a year now. No problems at all with the dive computer.
Finally sprung for the overpriced Suunto Cable to interface with my PC and see what my dives look like graphically and keep a backup to my paper logbook.
Suunto provides a serial cable with a USB adapter and a software disk.
With USB out for so long now and serial fading away, why doesn't Suunto make available a direct USB cable? Anyway-- the software disk that came with the cable is useless because it has nowhere near the latest version of Dive Manager, so I download it from Suunto.com. Then I download the USB drivers for the dive computer.
Windows Vista has now been released but the installation instructions with the cable are not even current enough to mention XP (which is what I use.) Windows 2000 is as current as they get in the manual.
I've tried all sorts of orders of startup to try to get the software to see the Vyper, but all I get is "Device not Found".
I know the USB ports work -- I use them with the digital camera, Ipod, and other stuff. I even tried my Serial port. I know it works because I interface my old Garmin GPS with it.
I know others have surely had problems with this. Suggestions before I take this stuff back and get those spring fin straps I've been wanting instead?
TIA
Digger.
