My Vyper Air is no longer displaying tank pressure. When I clear the transmitter code and put it near the pressurized tank, it acquires a new code, but still no display.

What a I missing here? I would have expected a "Fail" or "---" where the pressure should have been if the transmitter has gone South. . .

Go to page 19 of your manual and start at step number 2. They why you describe it goes procedures. Or it could be a dead battery.

Or it could be a dead battery.

That was my first thought, but if it acquires the code, wouldn't that mean the battery is functioning?

JohnN,

The computer and transmitter will need to be evaluated to find the reason why you are experiencing this. I don't think that the battery is the reason, because typically your Vyper will display the low battery sign instead of the air pressure. Also, there may have been a slight leak and the transmitter is in early stages of fully shorting out. The best idea would be to send your Vyper Air and transmitter to an authorized Suunto service center for evaluation. Please locate the nearest one to you from the link provided. Thanks Chris,

I turned off tank pressure on the Vyper, turned it back on and everything is now working. Doesn't make any sense to me. This computer/transmitter pair is a bit odd anyway because I need make it 're-learn' the transmitter code every time.

Air integration is a nice convenience, but I always have a SPG.

Sorry I was out town, I was going to say try that or go down to your LSD and try it with one of their computers.

JohnN,

Glad that the transmitter is functioning properly, but if the problem occurs again I would strongly recommend you to send in for evaluation.

Hi JohnN, I bought a Vyper in December of 2012 and it has failed on every single dive trip I have taken it on. Two weeks after purchase on a liveaboard in the Exumas it would read FAIL during a dive for several minutes and then suddenly come back with a tank pressure. Dive shop sent it in and Suunto replaced battery in transmitter. Next trip to Bonaire it worked for a few days and then intermittent FAIL on almost every other dive for 10 days. Was told the computer needed a battery. Replaced it. Next trip to Philippines it would not read pressure at all from three different tanks. No one else on the boat had a Suunto and no one had a transmitter so it was not an interference problem. Reset computer, synced up on another code and worked for a day. Next day, same thing, had to reset again and again synced up on a different code. This happened several more times over two week trip. Finally it started showing 4400 pounds of pressure when I was down to under a 1000 pounds. I downloaded all the dives so there is a trail of the failures. I would recommend you download your dives to document the problem if it persists. My Vyper is back at the shop again for over two weeks waiting to be repaired or replaced. I am not so sure this is a reliable and safe product and if it fails again it is going to be returned for good.

UPDATE: I sent my Vyper back to Chris at Suunto and he replaced both the computer and transmitter. The new equipment has worked without a single problem for over sixty dives since then. Thank you Chris for providing great customer service.

I have logged close to 150 additional dives since my original post using my Vyper Air and have not had a single problem. Thanks again Suunto.
