It's pooring down with rain in thailand at the moment. what's the viz like in the similans compared to ko toa?

any other suggestions?

cheers.

dave.

This time of the year, visibility around koh Tao is usually only around 10-12m at best. The Similan should be better.
As far as the rain goes, Similan should not be affected that much by run off since it has mostly rocky islands with little soil to speak of. In fact, I am heading there later on today.
The islands are also well protected by bays etc but getting there might be a little difficult when the weather is not cooperating.
The monsoon is pretty much over and Similan is in a transition stage to its usual diving season.

I almost cancelled the trip today myself because of the rain but after talking to several people down in Phuket and gettting report from people who are currently in the Similan, it sounds like it should be alright (keep my finger crossed):)

At the momont the viz in the Similans is good, appx. 25 meters. Wait a couple of weeks and it will be even better, but really no complaints. And: at the moment there are not yet that many boats and divers, so excellent diving right now.

Just got back from the Similan this am. Visibility was not as good as it could be ie only 20+ m rather than 30+. Current was not too strong and the sea was not too rough. However I heard that the weather forecast predicted 2-4m waves today in the Andaman sea! There were 7-8 boats out there already but luckily there are several dive sites so it was not crowded.
Yesterday we had quite a bit of rain on the way back but the 3 days that we were there, we had may be 10 minutes of rain around the island and that was about it.

I'm not sure abt others but my diving last weekend at King Cruiser etc were ruined due to Strong current and bad viz :( ;-0
and during my off gas days, it's been raining thoughout, so Outdoor activities were rather restricted. BUT the bonus is I get to get to stay indoor to enjoy massages :out: :D

Don't know about the Similans, but Koh Tao isn't too bad at the mo if you go to the right site. The rumours that the weather is wank and the viz is shocking are greatly over exaggerated at the moment, I got sunburnt yesterday and have had 2 excellent dives today with viz around 15m's

Weather has changed dramatically here in Phuket in the last week. No more rain!

I can now say it's "high season" weather. The winds have stopped blowing from the East and it's lovely! Similan Islands are great right now.

There may still be some rain now and then, but not much. Good, we had enough this summer.
