So I'm gonna be in the Chicago area on a business trip during the second week of January and I was wondering if there were any dives I could do while I'm in the area. Am I crazy for even thinkin' about it? I normally dive California and am now diving dry, so that shouldn't be a problem. Can anyone help me out?

Since nobody else has told you yet, Yes you are crazy.
Most years there is ice over the lake at that time, but not this year so far.
Most of the boats are out of the lake in January, and those not out are sitting in docks with bubblers under them to keep water movement around them to keep from getting iced in.
Enjoy your time here in Chicago, but don't plan on diving unless you have some connections with the Chicago Fire Department rescue team. They practice year round.

Well that's what I thought,.. but I figured that it never hurts to ask. I like to dive in new places even if it isn't prime conditions. Besides, I always wanted to try ice diving and I was hoping you guys had ice up there. Oh well.

(and if anyone ever told me they dove in California during the winter before I started to dive, I would have thought they were crazy)
