Hi guys. I'm a norcal diver who is visiting in late September to do some hiking/food-tripping. I have one, possibly two free days and I would like to do some diving in the Seattle area. I have a few questions though. What are the conditions like in late September? Someone told me it's colder than Monterey/central CA area, but I also read someone saying September is a warmer month with mid-50s temps. I dive wet and can handle 50 degrees; anything below that, I freeze and get out of the water after 15 minutes!

I will be staying near the airport and prefer not to drive more than 25 miles to get to a dive site. (I don't drive at all here in SF.) Which sites are the most accessible for me? Are there dive ops that do weekday boat trips? My date is Friday, Sept 24. Any of you available to play tour guide? I am more than happy to compensate by buying lunch (and gas if you want to pick me up because I haaate driving). :) I'm an AOW diver with 125 dives, I dive in Monterey regularly and have dived a couple of places in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. Lastly, what kind of marine life can I expect to see there? I've seen some pics and it looks quite similar to Monterey... (I'm trying to decide if I should bring my camera.)

Sorry for all the q's!

Ben told me you were coming ... and if you want to hook up for a dive in the late afternoon/early evening, I get outta work at 3:30 and can be at the dive site within an hour of that.

Best/easiest place near the airport would be Three Tree North ... it's only a few miles away. But lately I haven't seen a lot of good stuff there. A bit further south would be Redondo ... about 15 minutes from the airport. I practically live there, and if you peruse my website (link's at the bottom of this reply) you'll see a lot of pictures of critters I've photo'd there.

Water temp ... at the end of September it's about as warm as Puget Sound gets ... mid-50's. If you're used to NorCal, we're only a degree or two cooler than someplace like Lobos. That time of year your wetsuit should be fine. Come to think of it ... Redondo's better than Three Tree for another reason ... a place to get into and out of a wetsuit ... and fresh water showers.

Come dive with me ... and Ben said you like to take pictures. I'll find you an octopus or six ... :D

Hi Bob, my name's Elaine. Very nice pictures - it looks like you guys have more weird-looking fish there. I had planned on having a late lunch with a friend who also gets off work around 3. She's also a diver but she's a vacation diver who hasn't dived since her refresher course in April. I messaged her and asked if she wants to dive with us. If she says yes and it's alright with you, cool. If she feels too rusty/uncomfortable, then I'll have to pass on your very gracious offer to be my guide. :( I did tell her that we'll be in good hands with you since you're an instructor/tech diver extraordinaire (or anyone that Ben recommends, since the guy is practically my new diver idol, LOL). So I will message you once I get a reply from her. Any way you can act "sick" at work that day? J/K
