I went SCUBA diving for the first time Sunday night. Bumping awkwardly off the bottom of the majestic Wayland pool, I stared, awe struck, at the bubbles rising from my regulator to float to the clear surface 10 feet above.
Ok, so it was a Discover SCUBA class and I was drifting around in the municipal pool with my best friend under the watchful eye of a Mass Diving instructor, but I had a blast. A honest to goodness, water in my ears, tangles in my hair, bubbles up my nose blast.

And I can’t wait to take the full class.

As someone who was recently certified (in April), I can honestly tell you that it only gets better. But I really do understand your enthusiasm.. I felt the same way.

Good luck with your future dives.

I love it!! And I love to be on a boat when a newbie returns from his/her first ocean dive.

There will be many more firsts possible - your first coral reef, first WWII wreck, first kelp forest dive, and so forth - maybe even looking at pre-iceage stalactites 150 feet down in a dark Blue Hole. And you'll always remember your 100th dive.

I agree with chester, was recently certified myself 2 weeks ago...still keep on dreaming about those darn fishes all around me when i did mask clearing drills...fearing i'll get a fish inside my mask and hurt the poor little creature :D

it's simply awesome being underwater

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I must admit when I first signed up for the Discover SCUBA thing, I had anticipated not taking the OW class until Sept. My summer schedule is very hectic due to moving, working and having an excessive number of volunteer responsibilities. Now I am looking at my calendar to see if I can squeeze in a couple of days this month or next to get in the water faster.

For any of you in New England: can you recommend a good LDS, especially one with great understanding instructors? Also, if at all possible, I would like to be able to eat when I am done taking the class, so moderately priced would be nice.

Of course, I can always eat tuna fish and ramen soup. I am not that far removed from a starving college student.

Thanks again for the warm welcome. See you in the water.

oh don't you listen to that. you can always get 1, 2 or even 3 jobs to support your addiction.

2 full time and 1 part time is obviously better, the closer to a sleep state you're in while diving, the less air you'll use.

welcome aboard

I think everyone can understand your excitement! I seriously babbled like a school girl for hours after my first OW dives.

I was quite fortunate to dive in the tropics and see a wreck, sharks and some other beautiful fish! There's something to look forward too!

Oh and the "bankruptcy lawyer" thing....that statement is as true as it gets right there hehe.
