Don't get wet as often as I like, but plan to do more regular diving this summer starting with a trip to Coz next month. Looking for an inexpensive setup instead of renting. I see Zeagle alot here, but I also see the pricetag. Everything I have read seems to say that the Viper America is a good solid reg, but haven't seen anyone mention it on this site. One of the DM's at my LDS uses the Viper Metal and swears by it. (About double the price though!) Any shared experience with this reg would be appreciated. Larry at Scuba Toys has a package ready for me at an unbelievable price.:D

I used one as part of my first setup... I can't say that I was thrilled with it. It felt kind of "weird" at deeper depths, it was like you had to "draw" a good breath off of it.

It wasn't AS noticible until I got my ScubaPro S600/MK25 setup. Now I see what a HUGE difference that is.

But definitely the Viper - harder to breathe, and - if I swam on my back (which I do sometimes for video shots) I would get water in my mouth. Which doesn't happen with the SP reg either.

I to just recently purchased the Viper America. I like it. It breathes pretty good and I really like the side exhaust and little bubble interference. The bad is just what the last post said, if your swimming backwards you do get some water in your mouth. I really wouldn't use it for technical diving. Keep it rec. It's not a bad regulator. Just don't breathe in too hard. Because the little flap in the second stage will "turbo" air in your mouth.

i have the viper metal for abt 30 dives.... no problem at 30 meters, it just breathes abit wet at some position.... btw what is the diff between metal and america?

...about $200. I went with the Dacor Eagle. Most people who have actually used it gave pretty good feedback. Got it yesterday and will have it in the water in a couple of weeks. Couldn't pass up the price and LDS promises long term service.

Metal (Greek: Metallon) is an element that readily forms ions (cations) and has metallic bonds, and metals are sometimes described as a lattice of positive ions (cations) in a cloud of electrons.

America is a light rock band, most popular in the early 1970s and now best known for their #1 hit "A Horse With No Name"

Sorry.

Hey,

The America is good scoring reg. Just the Metal was a little bit out my price range. Not only that I like the America first stage a little more than the Metal's.

Now I do have the Eagle Sport and plan on getting the DPD really soon. THAT is a good breathing regulator.
