I had my brand new LP95 steel and valve O2 cleaned and it's first fill with 32% by my LDS. They put the O2 cleaning sticker on it, but no VIP sticker. I assume the O2 sticker covers the VIP for fills, but does this mean that in a year I have to get it O2 cleaned again or just have a VIP done?

Thanks, this is the first tank I've had O2 cleaned.

If you think about it, when the shop takes the valve out of the tank to VIP it and service the valve, it's important to make sure that all those parts go back together with no hydrocarbons or fibers that could cause problems with partial pressure fills. You'd be surprised how many fibers will end up on something, just from putting it down on a wooden counter or newspaper or paper towel!

Most of the time, a VIP will include servicing the valve and recleaning everything prior to reassembly.

Around here VIP dates are stamped into the metal of the cylinders.

Does the sticker list the month and year it was inspected? If so, your good.

Why? Only the hydro date needs to be stamped.

A side note, if you are getting banked premix Nitrox fills (<40%) there is no need to get your cylinders O2 cleaned. Cylinders should be O2 cleaned if you are doing partial pressure fills.

The problem IMHO is that the VIP stickers are typically either "air only" or "O2 clean" When one really needs air/banked nitrox (<40%) and O2 Clean/nirtox (>40%)/Partial Pressure

Depends on the country ...

Are you talking about a tank with a 2400 psi comparable to thirty year old prehistoric filling pressures that severely restrict any current or future diving you may wish to accomplish?

Are you able to buy those manufacturer clean?

Oh and avoid placing your valve down on a wooden counter or
newspaper or paper towel to avoid contaminants or fibres!

I don't think so. VIP is strictly a tank inspection, rebuilding a valve is something completely different and there's absolutely no reason to do it every year. Tank valves can go many, many years and still work fine. Now, if you want to rebuild the valve annually to keep it O2 clean, that's a different story, and would be part of the O2 cleaning, but not the VIP. I honestly don't know enough about O2 cleaning to know if the standard protocol is to rebuild the valve at every cleaning. I don't know why it would be necessary, unless the tank had been filled with suspect air.

My LDS (I assume all do this) includes a new tank neck o-ring because the valve has been out with the VIP but nothing else with the valve.
