Vintage Edge Dive Computer

Hello everyone

Great news that everyone is getting to use their "vintage" dive brains and educating us all BUT does anyone out there wish to own a pre-loved yum yum yellow Edge Dive Computer by Orca. It was purchased in August 1988.

Is the EDGE yellow or does it have a yellow plastic holder? Most of the EDGEs I've seen were stainless steel with no paint, but if I remember correctly, some were painted. I seem to remember a buddy had a blue one.

Nope, it's just old. Vintage is more about an era than age. A 57 Chevy will always be vintage, a 75 Vega will never be. A 57 Aquamaster is vintage, a 75 Conshelf will alway just be old. Computers of any year wll never fall into the vintage catagory, they missed the era.

Hey Walter, correct, it is actually a stainless steel computer with no paint, but with a plastic yum yum yellow cover (another buddy used to have the blue cover for his).

Does the yellow cover come almost all the way over the EDGE or does it stop about 2/3 of the way up? I'm trying to determine if it is an earlier or later model, photos front and back would help.

Actually it is clear anodized aluminum.

Hi Walter, this SB makes me laugh, read through the messages and it is like "chinese whispers" game isn't it? Sorry I am new to SB and don't understand how to attach picture (I have a photo but unable to upload because it says something about http address?) send me PM and I will send photo directly. The Edge I have has the yellow cover covering the case which is MACHINED ALUMINUM (according to the owners' manual spec). Best fishes/Carole

I stand corrected, they were not SS.

To attach a photo, simply click on the paper clip icon, then click browse in the new window, find the file, and click upload. After it uploads, you can attach another. When you've attached all the photos you want to share, go back to the original window and complete your post, you have uploaded your photos as thumbnails.

I agree. The Edge it is the only computer (that I could find so far) that shows individual nitrogen compartments

I liked it so much that I bought one and put it in the simulator

WOW an original Bend-O-Matic!!!

You know, it really bugs me when I see this statement. I still have my SOS meter (not diving with it, of course). It was an early four digit model. I did years of pretty technical deco diving with it and I NEVER knew of any of my friends, who also did this kind of diving, to get bent. And I really pushed the limits.

Tim, did you ever use one or are you just parroting what you have heard others say? I would suggest that those who became ill using one did not keep it properly checked and calibrated. Calibration was something that needed to be checked.
