I was ready to book at Villa Blanca since we are diving with Papa Hogs, however the reviews I keep reading are so mixed that I have not yet booked a room. We want someplace nice but don't want to spend a lot. We are arriving March 9th and are looking for some additional hotel recommendations.

Thanks,

Gary

Check out Caribe Blu, right "next door".

Ditto what Gordon said....what are you looking for in a hotel?? PapaHogs can pick up from most hotels

We want someplace nice, clean and would prefer a pool and ocean. We are not looking for a fancy resort but don't want a run down place either.

I think Caribe Blu would be perfect if they have space http://www.caribeblu.net/

I sent in the web form today but on Blue XT's dive package web page, my dates are not available.

Was BXTS booked up?? or Caribe Blu?? or both....they are both very popular and you have to book pretty far in advance....sometimes they have cancellations....

We stayed at Vista del Mar over Christmas for the first time and found it to be a great little hotel....but it is in town....no beach....but you can get an ocean view room they do have a small pool as well.. http://www.hotelvistadelmar.com/

there is also Casa Mexicana right next door and they have ocean view rooms and a small pool...

Casa del Mar is a bit further past Caribe Blu...but they have a pool and a beach club

If you get a "superior oceanview" room at Villablanca, you'll be ok. Not fancy, but a big, spacious room, oceanview (ocean across the road), a small pool and jacuzzi. $4 taxi to town. It's laid back and usually quiet. Papa Hogs and Hogtown Cafe is next door. Good for breakfast and great for post-dive lunch and happy hour. (The breakfast spot the hotel was too slow for us).

I've gotten deals on Expedia for the superior oceanview at Villablanca for $52-65/nt (depending on the time of year). If you stay there I'd suggest that you regardless of how you book the room, contact the hotel directly in advance and ask to get one on the front half of the 2nd floor. And when you get there, ask to see the room first. There are some with a couch and some with a kitchenette.

Casa del Mar might also fit the bill. And they've had some really good deals since the summer. They're a bit further south but still a $4 taxi to town. www.casadelmarcozumel.com

But it does sort of depend on what you define as "someplace nice" and what you want to spend.

I think they meant Caribe Blu was booked since they list other hotels as available that week for there packages. I hope to here from them soon but I guess our next choices would be Casa Mexicana, looks like there is no beach but breakfast is included. Or Vista Del Mar, I like being in town and walking to lunch and dinner.

Casa Del Mar keeps coming up at $109.20/night. Is that a good rate for them? I was hoping to spend less on the room.
