i have a question , why use SIR in your nickname ?

.

:14: force of habit mostly, back years ago two female friends claimed i was thier knight in shining armor, so they proclaimed me Sir Chas and got me a personaized tag for my car ( charles was too long), when I started a horse farm i adapted the name to the farm. when I started traveling over here for business, the Sir again came into play, and even my boss in the states started into it. i am "retired" now but I sit on the board of a couple of companies here and it a common form of address. it is not ego or anything just the most common way people refer to me

a. what percent of your dives are in batangas compared to subic - 100:0
B. what is the major determining factor - proximity and cost
c. what factors can be used to get more divers to visit subic - more promotions or information about what you can see there and at what cost
d. how do you rate subic - never gone diving there so i really cant say

hope this helps

a little off topic, but how do you get to subic (cheaply), how much does it cost, how long does it take and is it easy to bring a lot of heavy gear?

that's the thing floater, it's easier to get to and fro subic by car and public transpo than it is to get to Anilao from Manila. It's only a 2 hour P170 bus ride (victory liner) from Pasay to just outside the Economic Zone.

To me, if only subic had better marketing to manila based divers and a system that is similar to anilao (particularly similar rates among other things), they have a good chance to open up the diving to the regular manila goers. I guess this answers c.

Maybe I'll check it out then... I like wrecks. What are some good dive shops there, preferably on the inexpensive side (by Subic standards)? Also, what about tech shops and places to stay?

Sorry mate, I only know of scuba shack and the new dive op that Diver's Network opened up. Other than that I'm sure Pakman, ANDIBK or Moose can chime in here with some suggestions.

Spoon's there right now (or maybe he's coming home already). When I do go dive subic I'll probably go through Diver's Network since I like Tom and Rocio's super sweet (the owners). :)

ninja edit: oh, and check out coron - that was SWEET wreck diving!

How does Diver's Network work?

How's the travel to Coron with heavy gear?
Can't answer the first question, but for the second question I can only answer by taking a superferry and not by plane. If you plan to bring heavy gear have the porter carry it. The downside is that you'll have to wait in the long lines at the beginning of the trip to wait for a porter. After that, you'll be fine finding porters to carry your gear.

Gearing is not like Anilao where the bangka assistants help you - you pretty much gear up yourself with the occassional help. But the bangkas are very spacious so you have lots of room to move around.

FYI, Discovery Divers is tech (TDI). Not sure if they have trimix though.

When I visit Subic I normally stay at Johan's dive center. They have good nice clean and fairly cheap rooms. I have always found the staff to be quite friendly and make my stay a pleasure. I will be on my way to Manila tomorrow and if I can not get a flight out I will be heading to Subic. When getting on a bus heading to Subic I normally buy two seats and put my dive gear in that seat to be on the safe side.

I dove with them in March and I don't think that they have trimix. On the other hand, there's no need for it. The deepest wreck in the area (the Irako) bottoms out at 43m, so trimix is really overkill.
