Only if you can't frame your picture or get below your subject without digging into a reef, or your eyes are too old for a tiny little .8 window with all the picture info in even smaller print at the bottom.
 
I have the 45-degree VF for my Nauticam housing, and while it takes a bit of practice (especially when shooting a 105 & +10 diopter) to get the angle right to find your subjects, it definitely helps a great deal in my opinion. I would buy another one if something happened to mine.
