Anyone been to any of those places. I am an advanced diver but only been out about 4-5 trips (Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, Malaysia). I have a few days to kill in Vietnam before going back to the US. Any advice on where to go? Anyone recommend one place over the others?

Many thanks,
Michael

I've dived Nha Trang but not the others. It's fun for a place to get wet but I certainly wouldn't travel there to dive. A lot of dead coral, poor vis and limited diversity. Still, if you want to get a few dives in, it'll do. Coco divers is a fun and friendly dive shop that doesn't have the huge crowds that plague Rainbow Divers.

There have been a few threads about Nha Trang that you can resurrect with a search. I've been thinking about diving there for several years, but the closest I've come so far is diving with two women from Nha Trang here at the Casino Dive Park.

The diving does not sound very good, but I'm still considering it.

I dived in Nha Trang last year - the diving wasn't too good. Poor viz. However, if you do go, I recommend Jeremy Stein's Rainbow Divers.

I heard from another dive friend that diving at Halong Bay in North Vietnam is supposed to be spectacular... I'm afraid I don't know much more than that, but may be worth looking into?

I did a couple of dives in Nah Trang in Feb/04 and concur with the other posts here. Lots of coral damage from dynamite fishing - but it is outlawed now and is coming back. The locals seem to be realizing the potential in rec diving and hopefully things will continue to get better. The water was colder, the vis not so good etc etc. We went out with Rainbow Divers and they did a great job. We had a lot of fun but we went there after 6 weeks in Thailand, diving around the Koh Lanta, Koh Muuk area and then a weeks liveaboard to the Surin and Similan Islands. Nah Trang was a bit of a let down after that but the bar was pretty high after the Thai sites we dove.

I'd stick to Thailand and Indo for diving/snorkelling and keep Vietnam for land
tours. Nha Trang is known more for keeping from being drugged
while on a night out.
