Fiona, the structure was concrete pylons standing on end. I don't know why they are there, but it was handy -- we could hang onto the tops of them, and be high enough not to threaten the groupers.

The boat went out of Jupiter, which was about a 15 minute drive from our hotel.

Within the organization "looking good" and being praised for it has become a major aspect of the activity. Like hockey players we need skills to perform our sport, but like hockey players, divers use their skills to achieve a goal. Is a hockey player more concerned with how he looked scoring the goal, or the fact that he scored the goal? A figure skater is more concerned with looking good because the goal of figure skating is to make the skills look good in competition.

lets see, first day of C2 danny told me i needed to fix my trim and i adjusted my weight placing on my doubles (still getting re-used to warm water-Al80 diving) and he never said anything about it after that.

post-C2 i think nick told me once to start with the mod-flutter kicking a bit sooner when going through delicate formations.

that's about the extent of the 'looking good' discussions that i've had in any full cave diving that i've done.

Dan, if/when you put another of these GUE/Adevnture dives together let me know as I would love to join you, cool video as well!

To others (Trace Malin) I took fundies and love to look at the reef/life. I also strive to have a good skill set and a good team orientation so that I avoid damaging the reef or upsetting wild life, and I am/have a buddy to help me out in the event something goes wrong but also to share the dive with. Also it's just easy and relaxing when you're squared away.

Oh, rox, we had SO much fun! It was a great group of people, the conditions were fantastic, and the diving was just plain great. I'm SO glad Dan and Errol organized this -- Dan and I have been talking about us coming to dive in Florida for several years, but it took an "event" to get us to come. West Palm is definitely on my "will do again" list!

Rox, you're preaching to the choir. I'm GUE trained. I like what Lamont said.

Rox,
We will be putting another trip together just after Easter.
We will try to evolve this one a bt.....more than likely, there will be a Primer class ( which I want a different name for, one less insulting.....like "introduction to Essentials of GUE Diving") and possibly a Fundies class also separate, and then on a Saturday/ sunday when all class work and completion is already over, the Fun-dives.
Here we will have some options....we can go with more of the unique diving in the Juno - Jupiter area, but this would mean doubles due to the large amount of 100 foot diving....or, it could mean we concentrate on the sites south of the Palm Beach Inlet, like Horseshoe Reef, Pauls Reef, DelRay Reef, The wreck of the Castor, and ther are plenty of others.
Another way we could possibly run a trip, would be to have a tech trip running inside a fundive trip....After Easter should be flat calm seas ( summer weather patterns should be in) ....Say on the saturday doing the HydroAtlantic or the Skycliffe as a first dive of the day, and the 80% of the boat that is not tech yet, can play on the surface in support capacity for the dive....when deco is completed, the boat then goes to do 2, 60 foot deep dives. ( Crowns of the reef here come up to 37 to 40 feet, inshore ledges are from 55 to 65 feet deep). This could be a great place for using single tanks instead of doubles, OR, just using doubles and GLORYING in the long bottom times and short SI's this area provides us.
The idea here would be to hear how these ideas feel to you guys. Obviously we would be shooting video of everything.

Maybe none of you like the idea of the tech trip inside the fund dive, and would rather grab all the gusto each of you could grab, for each day....I just need to know :-)

So what do you think?

Personally, I would rather do all reefs...but then again, looking at rusted metal does nothing for me, especially not when it's costing me $1/minute of bottom time

The math is simple on this one...
Sea Turtles + Sharks + Grouper + Long BT w/o deco > rust buckets.

just using doubles and GLORYING in the long bottom times and short SI's this area provides us.
Now you're talkin'! I was very happy with Jupiter Dive Center overall, but limiting bottom time wasn't something I was fond of....if you know of a boat that doesn't do this, I'd be very pleased.

Anybody thinking of attending the next one, DO! The diving was really beautiful - lush reefs, big schools of fish, and BIG fish!

Dan, if I were to come back, I'd vote for shallower dives and longer bottom time, myself . . .
