Could a filter be used to screen out key condolences words used in the AI thread only like what is used in general for **** and ****?

I don't know if a localized filter could be implemented or not, but I'd think that a post containing a lot of **** would detract. Hopefully a little vigilance and help from the members will keep this a manageable issue.

For what it is worth the A&I thread has in my opinion saved a number if divers from needless injury and perhaps death. It has caused them to question, reevaluate, rethink, and get when necessary more training. I personally have done the latter with two students involved in one of the more controversial threads in the forum this year. I really do not care if the names are in or not. For me they do not need to be. What I need is the incident, the facts surrounding it, the cause of death, the known factors contributing to it, and the speculation as to what may have contributed to it.

Why? Because everyone of those items adds to my knowledge base to pass on to my students and others interested in the sport ways to stay out of trouble and not get killed. It has resulted in my who is responsible sticky in the new divers forum, a paper I give to every student on Safe Diving Practices, and just completed, a presentation that I will be giving in March and sent out today to a couple members on the Failure of the Buddy System and the consequences of that. 42 power point slides and an hour lecture. None of these pull any punches and are not supposed to. They are lessons learned the hard way that can only be driven home in the same manner.

No fluff or pretty phrases. Incident- analysis of circumstances- contributing factors- results- possible preventive measures- conclusion. We take diver training and the students ability to handle the truth to damn lightly. These are grownups who if they cannot handle these truths should stick to other sports. I do feel for the families and have on one occasion been contacted by a survivor not happy with my analysis and use of the incident until I was given the chance to explain why I use it. No names but this is a small area. When I explained that the speculation offered could be used to prevent another family from experiencing the same pain and could make a real difference I was given the ok by them. Didn't need it and they knew that but I think it made them feel better.

So if you want to omit the names fine. But do not under any circumstances prohibit the speculation. Because the one thing that may occur by prohibiting it may be is that the item is one that the next diver may need to consider before hitting the water. So what if xxx had a heart attack before his final ascent and that's why he rocketed up. What if the speculation said a bad schrader valve was the culprit and it caused a diver to get his gear checked and that check revealed just that or a loose inflator that would pop off if yanked too hard? That speculation just saved a diver from a possible incident that could have resulted in panic and worse.

Out of the box thinking, too out there, maybe but again maybe not. I know of a few people who have commented on my article as possibly having saved them a serious issue. I don't know if that true. But they say it is. That is what counts. Speculation requires thought. And that seems to be sorely lacking today based on the questions we see in the new divers forum and it is not their fault. They don't know what to think about. For whatever reason they are not getting food for thought in the classroom. But here is a chance to make a real difference. Don't take that away.

ANd just as a point of information I am doing alot of writing this weekend. I have a severe case of laryngitis and bronchitis. When I talk it cause the inflammation to bleed into my sinuses. Not talking is allowing my mind to get synched and start finishing some projects I've been having trouble with. That also means alot of time to look at this board and I'm off work as well till tuesday because of being sick. Just a little info. BTW sympathy messages are welcome. I feel crappy. AND I tend to be even more blunt and to the point, as well as less likely to self censor!

No. The language filter is a board wide setting.
