They put it on a barge and used cables to tie it in place then sank it. Shortly after a major storm came through and it was destroyed and washed away. No trace remains.
 
Actually it was destroyed. Some small pieces were found but the rest is gone.
 
To be honest I don't know where the site is as I have never visited it.

Think about what the hurricane did to a ship the size of the Spiegal Grove by putting her keel down from a side resting position and then look at the size of the plane. It must have shredded it.
 
I dove the vet's reef last year around this time and was pretty awesome. Great vis and a lot of fish including a few Goliath Groupers. I plan on diving it within the next month of so.
